How to Operate

How much coffee will my carafe hold?

The Ninja Coffee Brewer comes with a unique 14-cup carafe, equivalent to 70 ounces.

How much water does the reservoir hold?

The reservoir holds 70 ounces of water.

What is the "1-4 CUP" button?

When selecting the 1-4 CUP function, you must be brewing 4 cups or less. The coffee maker's brew cycle will be optimized for brewing smaller batches, resulting in the most flavorful coffee.

How does the drip stop work?

This unit has a built-in drip stop, preventing coffee from dripping when the carafe is removed. If you are pouring a cup before the brew is complete, the carafe needs to be returned to the unit as soon as possible to prevent overflow because the unit is still brewing.

Does the coffee maker turn off automatically?

No. To turn off your coffee maker, you must unplug your unit.

What is delay brew?

The Delay Brew feature allows you to program your unit to automatically brew coffee within the next 24 hours.

To finish adjusting the time, pause the H and M buttons until you reach the desired time. Once you have the desired time, allow the unit to sit for 5 seconds. After the 5 seconds has ended the clock will be set. Note: The AM and PM indicators will light up on the left side of the clock as you adjust the time.

How do I set the delay brew?

To set the delay brew, ensure that the unit is powered on and press the DELAY button. The Delay Brew button will illuminate and the clock will flash "12:00" or the last delay brew time that was set. While the clock is flashing, use the H and M buttons to set the time that you would like the delay brew to begin. The Ninja scoop is equivalent to 2 tablespoons.

Do I have to use the glass carafe that came with my unit or can I use a different Ninja carafe?

The 14-cup carafe that came with the Ninja Coffee Brewer, is the only Ninja carafe that is compatible with this unit.

There is still liquid in my brew basket after a brew.

If the carafe is not installed, any water that continues to brew into the brew basket will remain there until the carafe is inserted.

My control panel/display is dim.

After 15 minutes your unit will go into stand-by mode, causing your display to dim. Please note, that your unit is not powering off.

Why is my brew cycle taking longer than normal?

It takes approximately 12 to 15 minutes to brew a full carafe of coffee. If you have noticed that it is taking longer than normal you may need to run a clean cycle to descale your unit.

Why is my brewer dispensing water during Keep Warm?

Water will dispense during keep warm if you set up a delay brew while the unit is in Keep Warm mode. Ensure that before you set a delay brew that the unit is not in Keep Warm mode.

What is Freshness Timer?

The coffee freshness timer lets you know how long your coffee has been waiting for you since the end of your previous brew.

Brewing

What is the difference between classic brew and rich brew?

Ninja's classic brew style coffee offers a smooth, balanced flavor while Ninja's rich brew offers a more robust flavor, maintaining a smooth coffee flavor when milk and creamers are added.

Can I brew tea in my coffee maker?

No. We do not recommend brewing tea in your unit.

What is thermal flavor extraction?

Thermal Flavor Extraction is a combination of automated controls that work together through heating the water to the perfect brewing temperature, pre-infusion, and coffee saturation to unlock the full rich flavor of your coffee.

Can I brew into a cup?

No. The only vessel that you can brew into is the 14-cup carafe provided with the unit.

Can I use the brew basket without a filter to brew coffee?

To brew the brew basket needs to be used in conjunction with the permanent filter that came with your unit or a #4 paper filter.

Can I re-use coffee grounds?

We do not recommend re-using coffee grounds.

The 1-4 CUP function brewed more than 4 cups of coffee.

When using the 1-4 CUP function, ensure that there are 4 cups or less of water in the water reservoir. If there are more than 4 cups worth of water in the reservoir the unit will continue to brew through all the water in the reservoir.

What coffee grind size do I use?

For best results, we recommend using a medium-coarse grind. We do not recommend using finely ground coffee because it may cause the brew basket to overflow.

Why is there still liquid in my brew basket after a brew?

If the carafe is not installed, any water that continues to brew into the brew basket will remain there until the carafe is inserted.

Why is my brew steaming so much?

At the end of each brew cycle, the boiler that heats up the water takes time to dry out. While the boiler is drying, more steam will be present, causing your brew to steam.

Why is there sediment in my coffee?

If there is sediment at the bottom of the brewed coffee, this may be due to using finely ground coffee in the permanent filter.

To reduce the amount of sediment in the brewed coffee, use a slightly coarser grind or use a paper filter.

Why is my coffee weak?

For a stronger coffee, use the Rich Brew setting, try darker-roast grounds, or use the permanent filter rather than a paper filter. If you want an even bolder flavor, you can add more coffee grounds. Additional grounds do absorb water, so you may get more concentrated coffee but overall less liquid volume.

Why is my coffee strong?

For milder coffee, try the Classic Brew setting using light-roast grounds and a paper filter rather than the permanent filter. If you want an even milder flavor, you can put fewer grounds in the filter holder.

Cleaning/Maintenance

How often should I run a clean cycle?

We suggest that you should run a clean cycle if it is taking significantly more time to brew than normal.

How do I run a clean cycle?

NOTE: Make sure the 1-4 CUP button is not selected/illuminated before running a clean cycle.

Step 1. Set the empty carafe beneath the brew basket.

Step 2. Use a descaling solution specifically formulated for coffeemaker cleaning and follow the directions on the package. Fill the water reservoir up to, but not exceeding, the 14-Cup Line.

OR

Add 16 oz. of white vinegar to the water reservoir, then fill the rest of the reservoir with water up to, but not exceeding, the 14-Cup Line.

IMPORTANT: Use only white vinegar.

Step 3. Once the water reservoir is filled with your cleaning solution or vinegar mixture, press

the CLEAN button. The clean cycle will take up to an hour. To cancel the clean cycle, press the CLEAN button again.

Step 4. The unit will beep when the clean cycle successfully completes.

Step 5. Empty the contents of the carafe and place it back under the brew basket. Clean the water reservoir with warm, soapy water to remove any cleaning solution that could affect the flavor of

your coffee.

Step 6. Refill the reservoir with fresh water up to, but not exceeding, the 14-Cup Line and set the empty carafe beneath the brew basket.

Step 7. Flush the system by running a 14-Cup Classic Brew cycle with water only. After

the cycle is complete, discard the water and thoroughly clean the carafe.

NOTE: The clean cycle will take up to an hour. If you cancel the clean cycle, your machine will not be properly descaled. Running a water-only clean cycle will not descale the brewer properly. Hard water will cause scale buildup faster than soft water, and the brewer will need to be cleaned more often.

Is the glass carafe dishwasher safe?

Yes, the carafe is dishwasher safe.

How should I clean the carafe?

We recommend cleaning your carafe with warm, soapy water, or placing it on the top rack of your dishwasher.

Where can I get descaling solution?

Descaling solution is available by calling Customer Service.

What should I use to clean my unit other than descaling solution?

We recommend that you use descaling solution. If descaling solution is unavailable, an alternative cleaning solution is white vinegar.

How do I clean the exterior of the coffee maker including the warming plate?

Hand wash with warm soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge.

Filters

What type of filter should I use?

You can use either the permanent filter or a #4 cone paper filter. Note: Use only one filter type at a time. Using the paper filter in conjunction with the permanent filter may result in water and/or coffee clogging and backing up in the brew basket.

Why is the paper filter folding over?

The unit is designed to take a #4 cone filter. Be sure you are using this size and shape, as larger sizes may fold over. Allow the filter holder to cool before handling. Be sure the paper filter is folded along its two seams and is pressed firmly into the filter holder. Alternatively, you can wet the sides of the paper filter to temporarily adhere it to the filter holder.

If the problem persists, try using the permanent filter instead of a paper filter.

NOTE: When using a paper filter, DO NOT use the permanent filter.
